Paijanne Water Tunnel is a 120-kilometre long water tunnel located in Southern Finland. It is the second-longest tunnel in the world, after the Delaware Aqueduct of New York, USA. This water tunnel runs at a depth of 30-100 meters in the bedrock. The purpose of the tunnel is to provide freshwater for over one million people in the Greater Helsinki area. Water from the Southern portion of Lake Paijanne is of good quality at the tunnel intake, and usually drinkable without processing.
