The Deccan riots of 1875 was a peasant movement against the moneylenders. It later became a social boycott movement when the barbers, washerman and many others stopped serving them. The revolt affected Poona, Sholapur, Satara and Ahmednagar. Deccan Riots Commission was appointed by the government to investigate the cause of the uprising.
