The Damodar River originates from the Palamau hills in the Chota Nagpur Plateau, Jharkhand. It flows southeast through Jharkhand before entering West Bengal. The river's basin covers 25,820 sq km, and it is 592 km long. It joins the Hooghly River near Kolkata.
