The 1960 Valdivia Earthquake is the world's largest earthquake by magnitude ever recorded. The epicentre of this earthquake was Lumaco, Valdivia city of Chile. It measured a magnitude of 9.4-9.6 on the moment magnitude scale. This earthquake caused a tsunami which affected southern Chile, Hawaii, Japan, the Philippines, eastern New Zealand, south-east Australia and the Aleutian Islands.
