Recently, the West Bengal government included Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) under its Swasthya Sathi universal health coverage scheme. Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) is a procedure that replaces damaged or diseased bone marrow with healthy stem cells. Stem cells can come from the same person (autologous) or a donor (allogeneic). Swasthya Sathi is a health insurance scheme launched on 30 December 2016 by the West Bengal government. It offers cashless, paperless treatment coverage of up to ₹5 lakh per family per year for secondary and tertiary care.
