China has agreed in principle to resume trade through Shipki-La in Kinnaur district, Himachal Pradesh during Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s recent visit to India. Shipki-La is a motorable mountain pass at 3,930 metres altitude, on the India-China border in tribal Kinnaur district, Himachal Pradesh. It serves as a boundary post on the frontier between India and China. It is one of the highest motorable passes in the world. The Sutlej River, called Langqen Zangbo in Tibet, enters India through this pass, historically serving as a vital trade corridor with Tibet.
