Notes: Project VARTAK of the Border Roads Organisation celebrated its 66th Raising Day on 7 May 2026 at Tezpur. Originally established as Project Tusker in 1960, it became the first BRO project to begin road construction work in India and was renamed Project VARTAK in 1963. The project played an important role in improving the strategic Bhalukpong–Tenga–Tawang road axis in Arunachal Pradesh under difficult terrain and weather conditions. Project VARTAK currently maintains and develops strategic roads in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, especially in West Kameng and Tawang districts near the international border.
