Ozzo Feni, a traditional liquor from Goa made from cashew apples, has received the Geographical Indication (GI) tag, marking a historic recognition. It is produced by Cazcar Distillery in Nanora village near Panaji, protecting its identity and boosting its market value. Feni is a strong Indian spirit made by fermenting and double distilling cashew apple juice or coconut sap. The Portuguese introduced cashew trees and distillation methods to Goa in the 1600s, later adopted by locals called bhatikars.
