The Maithon Dam is located in Jharkhand, built on the Barakar River in 1958. It is part of the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) project for flood control and power generation. The dam is 4,789 meters long and 50 meters high, with a reservoir spanning 65 km². It features a 60 MW underground power station, the first of its kind in Southeast Asia. The Barakar River is distinct from the nearby Damodar River, where Panchet Dam is situated.
