The Maithon Dam is built on the Barakar River in Jharkhand. It was constructed in 1958 as part of the Damodar Valley Corporation project. The dam is 165 feet high and 15,712 feet long. It includes an underground power station with a capacity of 60,000 kW, the first of its kind in South East Asia. The reservoir covers 65 square kilometers and serves flood control and hydroelectric power generation purposes.
