Q. On June 5, 2021, which mission was launched by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to plant 5 crores saplings in state?
Answer:
Mission 5.0 Plantation
Notes: Bihar government has decided to plant more than five crore saplings in the current financial year (2021-22) under the ‘Mission 5.0 Plantation’, with an aim to increase the state’s green cover to 17% from the existing 15%. Mission was launched by planting a mahogany sapling at chief minister's residence, on the occasion of World Environment Day.
Total green cover in Bihar was reduced to only 9% in 2000. Thus, Nitish Kumar launched Hariyali Mission in 2012, to increase the green cover. Since 2012, Bihar successfully increased its green cover to 15% by planting around 22 crore saplings.
