Notes: The Tamil Nadu government announced on the basis of an archaeological report that, Carbon dating of excavated finds in Tamil Nadu shows evidence of iron being used in India back to 4,200 years ago. Archaeological excavations in Mayiladumparai have found that the date of iron artefacts unearthed ranges from 2172 BCE to 1615 BCE. As per the Archaeologists,  Mayiladumparai hamlet was the earliest Iron Age site discovered thus far in India.
