Khandesh, in the Tapti valley, was founded by Malik Raja Faruqi after Firuz Shah Tughluq's death. A former Tughluq noble, he capitalized on political instability. Khandesh became a trade and cultural center with Persian and Deccan influences. The Faruqi dynasty ruled for nearly two centuries, enhancing the region's architecture, including Asirgarh Fort.
