Notes: Karmajhiri, a popular safari zone, was recently notified as sanctuary by the Madhya Pradesh government. It is situated contiguous with the Pench Tiger Reserve in Seoni district. The new sanctuary will further strengthen the management of tiger reserves and protection of fauna. Pench Tiger Reserve is the first tiger protection area to span across two states – Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. Much of the tiger reserve lies in Madhya Pradesh. This portion of the tiger reserve is situated on the southern slopes of Stapura range in Central India. The tiger reserve’s name is derived from Pench river – the life source of the protected region.
