Japla is located in Palamu district, Jharkhand. It hosted India’s first Portland cement factory known as Sone Valley Cement Limited, later taken over by Cement Corporation of India. The factory was established during British rule on the banks of the Sone River. It operated until its closure in 1993. A revival announcement was made in 2017 by Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das, but reopening was not confirmed by 2026. The cement industry is historically associated with Japla.
