International Day for Biological Diversity is observed every year on 22 May to raise awareness about biodiversity conservation. The 2026 theme is “Acting locally for global impact.” The campaign highlights the importance of local environmental actions such as tree plantation, habitat restoration, and community clean-up drives. The observance supports implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework and its 23 global biodiversity targets. The theme stresses that biodiversity conservation requires participation from governments, local communities, indigenous groups, businesses, and citizens.
