India shares maritime boundaries with seven countries: Bangladesh, Indonesia, Myanmar, Pakistan, Thailand, Sri Lanka, and Maldives. The boundaries extend along a variety of region including the Bay of Bengal, the Gulf of Mannar and the Sir Creek area. The Indian Navy is responsible for maintaining this expansive naval frontier. These maritime boundaries play an essential role in inter-country relations, security, commerce, and navigation. The longest of these borders is with Indonesia, measuring about 555 kilometers in length.
