The Chota Nagpur Tenancy Act was passed in 1908. It received the Governor General's assent on 29 October 1908 and came into force on 11 November 1908. The Act was published in the Calcutta Gazette as Bengal Act 6 of 1908. It amended and consolidated laws concerning landlord-tenant relations and rent settlement in the Chota Nagpur region, primarily to protect tribal land rights and prevent land alienation.
