In which year Indian Railway was nationalized?
Q. In which year Indian Railway was nationalized?
Answer: 1951
Notes: Prior to 1951, India's railways were owned and operated by several railway companies like the Great Indian Peninsula Railway, East Indian Railway, etc. In 1920, these railway companies were grouped together under government control into a Railway Board for coordinated operation. However, they remained as separate corporate entities. Finally on 14th April 1951, the Railway Companies Act was passed, which nationalized all private railways by bringing them under the ownership of the central government. This allowed for better integration and development of a unified railway network under central government control.
