B. D. Jatti became Acting President of India in 1977 after President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed's death. He was Vice President then and served during the post-Emergency period. Jatti served as Chief Minister of Mysore State (now Karnataka) before his national role. His acting presidency lasted until the next elected president took office later in 1977.
