Gautam Buddha Wildlife Sanctuary is primarily located in the Koderma district of Jharkhand. It also spans parts of Hazaribagh and Chatra districts in Jharkhand, as well as Gaya district in Bihar. The sanctuary was established in 1976 and covers an area of 259 km². It consists of moist and dry deciduous forests, including sal trees, ravine thorn, and riverine forests. Wildlife includes leopards, sloth bears, chitals, wolves, and various birds like peafowl and eagles.
