Gautam Buddha Wildlife Sanctuary was established in 1976. It spreads across districts in Jharkhand and Bihar, including Koderma, Hazaribagh, Chatra, and Gaya. The sanctuary covers 259 km² and includes Lower Gangetic Plains moist deciduous and Chota Nagpur dry deciduous forests. It hosts tigers, leopards, wolves, and sloth bears. Koderma district is one of the primary locations of this sanctuary in Jharkhand.
