The equation v = u + at gives the relation among initial velocity (u), final velocity (v), acceleration (a) and time (t). It is called first equation of motion. The other two equations of motion are : s = ut + 1/2at
+ 2as, where s = displacement. The equations of motion can only be used for an object travelling in a straight line with a constant acceleration.
