Jharkhand was formed on November 15, 2000, from Bihar. It initially had 18 districts. Six new districts, including Khunti and Ramgarh, were created on September 12, 2007. This brought the total number of districts to 24. Jharkhand's districts are grouped into five divisions: Palamu (3 districts), North Chotanagpur (7), South Chotanagpur (5), Kolhan (3), and Santhal Pargana (6). Official government records confirm that Jharkhand currently has 24 districts as of 2025.
