The Gandhara style and the Mathura style developed under the patronage of the Kushan rulers. Unlike these two styles, the Amaravati style developed under the patronage of the Satavahana rulers. The Gandhara style developed in the northwest frontier and modern Kandahar region of India, while the Mathura style developed in and around Mathura, Sonkh, and Kankletila in India.
