Third Five Year Plan
Bokaro Steel Plant was established during the Third Five Year Plan (1961-1966). The project began in 1965 with Soviet Union assistance, and Bokaro Steel Limited was formed in January 1964 to build and operate the plant. It started operations in 1972 as India's fourth integrated public-sector steel plant. The plant is located in the Chota Nagpur plateau region, formerly in Bihar and now in Jharkhand, chosen for its mineral resources essential for steel production.
