Velalil Krishnan Krishna Menon was an Indian nationalist, politician, diplomat and former Defense Minister of India. After India gained independence in 1947, Menon was appointed India's High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, a position he held until 1952. In 1953, V.K. Krishna Menon became a member of the Rajya Sabha. On 3 February 1956, he was inducted into the Union Cabinet as a minister without any portfolio. He was elected to the Lok Sabha from Mumbai in 1957 and was named Defense Minister under Prime Minister Nehru in April of the same year.
