After the fall of the Satavahana Dynasty, Karnataka fell into the hands of the Pallavas of Kanchi. Their feudatories, the Chutu Satakarnis, ruling from Banavasi after the fall of the Satavahanas, also seemed to have accepted the overlordship of the Pallavas. The domination of the Pallava dynasty was ended by two indigenous dynasties, namely the Kadambas of Banavasi and the Gangas of Talakad (Western Ganga Dynasty), who divided and ruled Karnataka between themselves.
