What is the meaning of ‘BARS’?

BARS stands for Behaviourally Anchored Rating Scale is a popular parameter used by the companies to gauge the performance of its employees set against defined behaviour traits which are connected to and based on particular numeric value along a scale of 1-5. The rating scale takes into account both qualitative and quantitative aspects of performance. It is popularly used in various industries which deal with people like customer care sections of banks, car rentals, telecoms etc. It splits any kind of task into a behaviour e.g. standard operating procedure of a call by a call centre operator. If the employee has or has not adhered to the SOP, it will reflect in his/her performance chart at the year-end.
