The Department of Science and Technology,Govt. of India as a part of its Science & Technology promotional activity has been supporting Research & Development programmes under Science and Engineering Research Council(SERC).

- To promote research in newly emerging and frontline areas of Science and Engineering including multidisciplinary fields;
- To selectively promote general research capability in elevant areas of Science and Engineering taking into account existing research capabilities of the host institution; and
- To encourage young scientists to take up challenging research and development activities.
