Appointments:
Maharashtra DGP- A N Roy
A N Roy, IPS is re-appointed Maharashtra’s Director General of Police (DGP) by the state government.

New Revenue Secretary : Sunial Mitra
Investment secretary Sunil Mitra will be new revenue secretary. He replaces P V Bhide who retires on January 31.

Next Chief of the Army Staff(COAS) – Lt Gen V K Singh
General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (Eastern Command) V K Singh is appointed as the next Chief of the Army Staff(COAS) in the rank of General. He will replace Deepak Kapoor on March 31, 2010. The Defence Ministry issued the order after the Cabinet Committee on Appointments cleared Gen. Singh’s name for the top post. He is the third generation officer from the Rajput regiment.

New Governors Sworn in:
The Governors of Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Punjab were sworn-in today. Mr. K. Sankaranarayanan has been sworn in as the Governor of Maharashtra at the Raj Bhavan in Mumbai. Mr. E Srinivasan Lakshmi Narasimhan was sworn-in as the Governor of Andhra Pradesh. Mr. Shivraj Patil has taken over as the Governor of Punjab.

“Racing Brand Ambassador” of MRF : Narain Karthikeyan
MRF Tyres has appointed Narain Karthikeyan, India’s first and only Formula One racing driver, as its “Racing Brand Ambassador”.

National Updates:
India’s longest Elevated National Highway

Union Road Transport and Highway Minister Kamal Nath inaugurats India’s longest Elevated National Highway in Bangalore today. The 9.5 Kms stretch built at a cost of Rs.781 crore connects important Electronic Industries hub to the main city.

India needs Independent Fisheries Ministry – Kalam
Our Former President A P J Abdul Kalam proposes an independent ministry for Fishing and Fish Products. He quotes that such sector had high potentials for rural development and employment generation as well as export earnings.

Money for India Hockey Teams:
State governments of Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Assam collectively pledge 2.5 crore rupees for both the male and female players. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Chouhan and his Haryana counterpart Bhupinder Singh Hooda pledged one crore rupees each while Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi agreed to donate 50 lakh rupees. ASSOCHAM Commonwealth Games Chairman Vinay Rai had announced 10 lakh rupees for the women players who are protesting in Bhopal against non-payment of their dues.

Veteran socialist leader and Samajwadi Party Rajya Sabha member Janeshwar Mishra dies of heart attack in Allahabad. He held portfolios like railways, Communications, Power, water resources during different governments headed by leaders like Morarji desai ,V P Singh, chandrashekhar, devagoda and ,I K Gujaral.
