Obituary: Shammi Kapoor
Beloved hero Shammi Kapoor passed away at Mumbai’s Breach Candy hospital recently at age of 79. Here are a few notes:
Shammi changed the template of the Indian Cinema 50 year ago in 1961, by screaming Yahoo and making the hero free from a colonial past and Nehruvian socialism. He represented a new persona distinct from the holy trinity of Dilip-Raj-Dev. Girls adored his rakishness because he brought a certain kind of maleness to the menu.
Debuted in Bollywood in 1953 with the film Jeevan Jyoti. Received the Filmfare Best Actor Award in 1968 for his performance in Brahmachari and Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for Vidhaata in 1982.
Married Geeta Bali and later Neela Devi Gohil.
You must note that Shammi Kapoor was the founder and chairman of Internet Users Community of India (IUCI). He had also played a major role in setting up internet organizations like the Ethical Hackers Association. Kapoor also maintained a website dedicated to the Kapoor family. His last film was Rockstar , which is coming up shortly in 2011.
