Indian Institute of Skills gets Government Approval
The Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Raj Kumar Singh, in a written reply to Rajya Sabha on Friday, 6th December 2019, informed that the Government of India has approved the proposal for establishment of the Indian Institute of Skills (IIS) in three locations in the country namely Mumbai, Ahmedabad, and Kanpur.
The IIS will be set up to build world-class skill training centers by learning from and imbibing the best practices from the globally renowned existing skill institutions.
The Institutes will be set up in Public-Partnership-Private (PPP) model.
At present, the existing ecosystem for skill training and development in India consist of Polytechnics, Industrial training institutes(ITI), National skill training institutes (NSTI) and many short duration skill training courses under various providers.
