HRD Ministry launches National Digital Library of India

Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) has launched National Digital Library of India project under its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). The project seeks to develop framework of virtual repository of learning resources with a single-window search facility.

About National Digital Library of India project

Objective: To make quality digital educational resources available to all citizens of the country to empower, inspire and encourage learning.

Implementing agency: It has been developed by Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur.

Features:

It is a single window platform that collects and collates metadata from premier learning institutions in India and abroad, as well as other relevant sources. It is digital repository containing textbooks, articles, videos, audio books, lectures, simulations, fiction and all other kinds of learning media. It is a 24×7 knowledge resource platform that is accessible to anyone with internet access.

It can hold content of any language and provides learning and research interface support for leading Indian languages. As of now, it has more than 3 crore digital resources available in over 200 languages. Its contents cover almost all major domains of education and all major levels of learners.

It has more than 50 lakh registered students and about 20 lakh active users. It allows users to access digital library anytime and anywhere absolutely free of cost. It has been integrated with UMANG App and users can register through www.ndl.gov.in or through the mobile app.
