5% increase in U.N. budget, India to pay more

The United Nations General Assembly cleared the $5.4 billion budget for 2012-13 which is 5% more than the previous budget.

India, Brazil, China and other emerging countries will pay more to the U.N.
The Assembly adopted a range of Fifth Committee (Administrative and Budgetary) resolutions, covering the scale of assessing Member States’ dues, the U.N. pension system and the proposed 2013 budget for 33 political missions.
The income revised upwards by $3.99 million to $511.74 million for the current biennium.
$566.48 million sanctioned to continue 33 special political missions in 2013 including those for Syria, Yemen, Libya and Sudan-South Sudan and large operations in Afghanistan and Iraq.
European nations, such as Britain, Germany and France and Japan will pay less in the revised U.N. budget.
The U.S. contribution for the regular budget will remain unchanged at 22%.
