4 Silver, 2 Bronze for India in 9th Edition of Nation’s Cup

The ninth edition of the Nation’s Cup Boxing Tournament was held in the city of Sombor, Serbia. India finished the tournament with an impressive haul of six medals, including four silver and two bronze from the championship.
Monika, Ritu Grewal, Cologne World Cup Gold and Asian Medalist M.Meena Kumari, and Bhagyabati Kachari won silver medals for India, under the categories of 48 kg, 51 kg, 54 kg, and 75 kg respectively. Meena Kumari lost the in the finals in a hard-fought contest with the Italian Giordana Sorrentino 1-4 while the reigning national champion, Bhagyabati Kachari went down to Russian Iuliia Chumgalakova in a split verdict. Though all the four Indians were qualified for and contested the final bout for gold, they settled for silver medals. In the 60 Kg category, India’s Pavitra settled for the bronze medal after losing in the semifinal 2-3 to Italy’s Rebecca Nicoli while in the 64Kg category, Basumatary also settled for Bronze medal losing her semifinal bout against the Croatian Sara Kos.
