Notes: Antonie van Leeuwenhoek, a Dutch scientist, discovered bacteria on 17 September, 1683. He made the discovery while using his homemade microscope to discover tiny organisms in human dental plaque. Leeuwenhoekis known as the “Father of Microbiology”, and often considered to be the first acknowledged microscopist and microbiologist.
