The Sama Veda is named 'Saman' (Raga) and focuses on its tune or song. Historians have argued that while the entire text contains 1875 verses, 75 are original and the rest are taken from all branches of the Rig Veda. It contains verses, special verses and 16,000 tunes (musical notes) and brass. It is also known as the 'Book of Mantras' due to the literary nature of the text. It also shows us how Indian music developed during the Vedic period.
