Equatorial regions receive rainfall throughout the year and thus there is no dry season. Average annual rainfall exceeds 200 cm to 250 cm. Even the driest month of the year receives rainfall more than 6 cm. This is because winds from two directions– Northeast Trade winds and South-East trade winds– meet near the equator at the Inter Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), an area of low atmospheric pressure.
