Q. Which of the following is correct about ‘Agoris’, a tantric movement? Answer:
All are correct
Notes:
Agoris was a Tantric movement, now extinct, and said to have consisted of two branches–the pure (suddha) and the dirty (malin). Aghoris were the successors of the Kapalika cult.
Among the female divinities worshipped were Sitala, Parnagiri Devi (the tutelary goddess of ascetics) and Kali.
No religious or caste distinctions were allowed, nor was imageworship, and all adherents were required to be celibate. Cannibalism, animal sacrifices and other cruel rites were practised.
All kinds of refuse was eaten including excrement (but never horse meat).
Each guru was accompanied by a dog, as was Siva in his Bhairava aspect. The Aghori yogins were buried and not cremated.
