Notes: It was Lala Hansraj—not Gangabehn Majmudar—who proposed placing the charkha (spinning wheel) at the center of India’s national flag. Mahatma Gandhi acknowledged that the idea of a spinning wheel on the flag was suggested by Lala Hansraj of Jalandhar. He approved the design, which later evolved into the Swarajya flag . Gangabehn Majmudar played a vital role in the khadi movement—she sourced spinning wheels and established spinning in Vijapur and at Sabarmati Ashram.
