Q. Which folk music symbolizes the teachings of Islam?
Answer: Zikiro
Notes: Zikir is a religious folk song of Assam. These religious folk songs are believed to have been composed by Saint Ajan Pir. Some say that he was a resident of Ajmer and others believe that he was from Arabia. He composed these poems in the 17th century. During the reign of Ahom king Godadhor Singh, his official Rupai da-Dhora snatched the eyes of Ajan Pir. But later the king realized the greatness of the saint and installed him with the land/nations at Joraguri Sapori near Dikhomukh. This Zikir was composed by the great saint there. Zikir is a melodious combination of Sufi and Vaishnavi cultures. They also reflect deep folk influences in the music.
