Answer: Maharashtra
Notes: According to data released by Brickwork Ratings in December 2015, Maharashtra earns about 70 per cent of its total receipts through tax revenue - the highest among large states - followed by Gujarat and Tamil Nadu. It is the largest economy of India in terms of Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) with Rs 16.87 lakh crore. The state contributes about 40 per cent to the income tax collection of India.
