Q. What is a form of Koodiyattam?
Answer: Sanskrit drama
Notes: Koothiyattam (Kudiyattam) is the oldest theater of India and a living tradition that survives in Kerala from the 10th century AD. It strictly follows the rules laid down by the Natya Shastra and is a traditional authority of the Chakyar and Nambiar castes of Kerala. The play is performed in Sanskrit, Prakrit and Malayalam through the musical instruments Mizhavu and Edakka which provide background music. All characters begin the game with survival, which is reminiscent of past events in the story. The story then opens comfortably with social commentary, philosophy and political ethics. Margi Madhu Chakyar is the leading scorer in this genre.
