The United Nations (UN) International Day of the Girl Child (IDGC) is observed annually on October 11 to highlight challenges faced by girls and promote their empowerment and human rights. The theme for 2025 is “The girl I am, the change I lead: Girls on the frontlines of crisis.” The theme focuses on the resilience and leadership of girls during crises and their advocacy for rights and well-being. The day originated from the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (BPfA) 1995, promoting girls’ rights alongside women’s rights.
