Notes: Tamil Nadu government was the first in India to start the Mid Day Meal Scheme in India. The history of the scheme actually dates back to 1925. Mid day Meal Program was started by Madras Corporation in 1925.  Later in the 1962-63, K. Kamaraj, the then Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu officially started this scheme in Chennai and later expanded to all the districts in Tamil Nadu
