Notes: In an effort to connect North-East with rest part of the country, Indian Railways has been working to improve the rail infrastructure of the country. The foundation for 111 km-long Jiribam-Tupul-Imphal railway line was laid in 2008. It is one of the many initiatives being undertaken in the region. This new line will comprise of 37 tunnels in all. The longest of these tunnels will be 11.55 km long, making it India’s longest tunnel under construction. Also, India will soon boast the world's tallest railway bridge, construction of which is on in full swing, over the river Chenab in the hostile terrain of Jammu and Kashmir.
