Notes: When Mahatma Gandhi’s Non-Cooperation Movement was launched against the colonial administration, a mob set the station on fire, killing 23 policemen at Chauri Chaura Village, in present day Uttar Pradesh. It was done in retaliation to the Police firing killing three people from the group of protestors against foreign products. After the Chauri Chaura incident, Gandhi called off the movement and condemned the violence.
