Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve is situated in Madhya Pradesh. Bandhavgarh was declared as a national park in 1968 and later as Tiger Reserve in 1993. It spreads across 716 square kilometres in the Umaria district. In this region, the first white tiger was captured by Maharaja Martand Singh of Rewa. This protected area is named after the most prominent hill in the region, which is believed to have been given by Lord Rama to his brother Laxman to watch Lanka. Bandhavgarh Fort at the centre of this national park was built during the reign of Gond Dynasty.
