The First Indian to feature in the IMF hall of former chief economists was Raghuram Ranjan, who was Chief economist and director of research of IMF between 2003 and 2006. Gita Gopinath was appointed as IMF chief economist in October 2018 by its managing director Christine Lagarde and served as the first female chief economist of IMF for 3 years between 2019 and 2022.
